The
yellow fin perch or as its more commonly known (yella) was caught on a ½
ounce spinner bait frame that I had made myself, the final assembly items
were selected from a range of interchangeable hardware items that I had
purchased from big daddyes web site. The freshwater fish was caught
by casting amongst a grouping of heavy fallen timber with a slow retrieve.
He was taken on the second cast after 2 initial hits on the first cast.
He weighed in at 7Lb and was released soon after into the Loddon River.
I used a Loomis GL2 rod and a Calcutta 51 reel with 30lB braid and 1 yard
of 15lLb mono leader. This gear would be considered a bit on the light side
as Murray cod inhabit these waters and they can be caught here up to 80lbs.

Janson is an Australian from Strathfieldsaye, Victoria. Above is the 7lb. Perch and below is the Murray cod. It seems to me Australia has no trouble growing the big fish. It would make a trip to "down under" worth while. They must have teeth, because I notice Janson keeps his fingers out of their mouths. |
